Spot On Networks, LLC (“Spot On”) announced today support for all IEEE802.11g and IEEE802.11n equipped Smartphones and Tablets using its proprietary platforms for service provision, monitoring and control.
New Haven, CT (PRWEB) February 18, 2011
Spot On Networks, LLC (“Spot On”) announced today support for all IEEE802.11g and IEEE802.11n equipped Smartphones and Tablets using its proprietary platforms for service provision, monitoring and control. Any Wi-Fi equipped Smartphone user is able to use Spot On’s networks for data services in an unlimited amount included in the monthly subscription. T-Mobile subscribers are also able to automatically use voice services as well as data services on Spot On’s networks with T-Mobile’s UMA services.
“With the billions of devices projected to be connected via mobile broadband, and a 26 times growth in data from 2010 to 2015 according to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast, we have been advocating the use of Wi-Fi to offload Smartphone data usage for some time. The spate of announcements from the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona this week, is indicative of the change in view by many of the world’s largest mobile operators, that Wi-Fi is significant for the boosting of capacity and coverage in mobile broadband networks”, said Dick Sherwin, CEO of Spot On.
He went on to say “Recent interviews by Fierce Broadband Wireless in which Cisco representatives pointed to a “peaceful co-existence” between Wi-Fi and 4G, and LR Mobile News articles indicating the need for carrier class Wi-Fi services to provide a consistent data off load experience, are examples of the dramatic change in viewpoints”.
Spot On’s use of the Wi-Fi frequency bands provide for over 300 Mhz of capacity in each building, compared to under 100 Mhz utilized by a mobile operator for an entire city, increasing the data capability that Spot On offers to complement the mobile operator. In addition to capacity, Wi-Fi networks are generally constructed inside a building instead of from the outside, meaning that signal strength as well as capacity is improved dramatically with a Wi-Fi network in a multifamily residential or multitenant commercial building”.
Because Wi-Fi networks operate on unlicensed frequencies, Spot On built Operational Support Systems that offer carrier grade quality services that are also secure and CALEA compliant. A comprehensive authentication process is automatically included with Spot On’s services.
A subscriber using Spot On’s services is able, on a single subscription, to utilize a computer such as a laptop, a gaming device or video streaming device like a Wii or Roku, and a Smartphone with unlimited data capacity for under $30 per month and have service throughout the residential or commercial building complex.

***Release from NBS VoICE***
January 25,2010 Spot On Networks Uses NBS VoICE for Call Center Management
Spot On Networks Uses NBS VoICE for Call Center Management
/PRZOOM - Newswire/ - NBS VoICE Manager improves ACD, CDR and Auto Attendant functions for wireless internet provider Spot On Networks.
Wayne, NJ, United States, 01/25/2010 – NBS, a fully integrated communication services provider, managed services provider and telecom reseller, recently implemented for Spot On Networks, of New Haven, CT, a comprehensive solution for their call center operations. NBS has a history of supporting call center applications with its integrated set of Internet based administrative tools for call centers known as the NBS VoICE Manager. VoICE Manager incorporates 5 valuable web based systems into its administrative portal giving companies the power to dictate the direction of inbound communications. The NBS VoICE Manager Console, Call Flow Manager, Queue Manager, Sound Manager and CDR Tool provide advanced call handling, routing, call recording and reporting functionality.
NBS customer, Spot On Networks, a WISP providing managed Wi-Fi and other wireless connectivity, had a specific set of requirements for calls coming into their customer service center and other parts of the company. Don Robinson, the company's Director of Operations was looking for a VoIP provider that could answer specific questions on the technical capabilities of their system as well as details on price and functionality. "We had some very specific needs" said Mr. Robinson, explaining that they "needed an ACD system for incoming customer service calls, plus the ability to pull call statistics for staffing and training purposes, as well as a full auto attendant with the option to use a live receptionist, depending on the time and circumstances."
In addition to providing telecom services, NBS had the PBX, interconnect and call center expertise to deliver the custom tailored call center solution Spot On was seeking. "There is no one-size-fits-all, cookie cutter solution in our experience" stated NBS president Russell Markman. "Each company communicates differently and needs to manage their call flow in unique ways" he added. This philosophy permeates NBS’s design of customer solutions, whether hosted voice, sip trunking, managed networks or voice and data connectivity. "We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver custom-built services that are the best fit for that particular customer’s application" he added.
Developing its own hosted voice platform gives NBS the ability to work with their customers to provide additional functionality specific to their business needs. With its own team of in-house software developers, NBS has the capability of swiftly responding to end-user requests for new and innovative tools and features. "NBS has the ability to write their own code if necessary" Mr. Robinson stated. "The NBS approach was to fit their system to satisfy our needs and not the other way around" he added. Spot On implemented the NBS VoICE hosted solution, utilizing Polycom IP desk and conference phones. With very affordable per seat pricing and access to the VoICE Manager administrative portal, the company found an economical solution that fit perfectly with the requirements they laid out in the beginning of their search. Mr. Robinson reported that the installation process was quick and painless and that he was extremely satisfied with the results. "We have been so happy with the NBS experience that we have recommended them to other companies" said Mr. Robinson.

Pronto, Spot On Networks, and GuestWiFi offer fast and cost-smart solutions for integration of customer service & Tier I/ Tier II network support in real time
GuestWiFi Successfully Merges Customer Service and Network Support into Spot On’s NOC for Quick Cost-Savings and Enhanced Service on Pronto's UniFi OSS Managed Services Platform.
Spot On Networks, headquartered in New Haven, CT, provides communications and internet services to businesses and residential subscribers. GuestWiFi, headquartered in New York City, provides network design, installation and management of Wi-Fi in hotels. Each company developed its business on Pronto Networks’ UniFI OSS and operates Wireless ISP networks using components of Pronto Networks Managed Services.
“Pronto’s Managed Service offering enabled us to focus on the sales and marketing of a new amenity in the hospitality market segment,” says Joe Germanotta, President of GuestWiFi. “As our business evolved from ‘for-pay’ to ‘free-access’, Pronto’s MSP service platform proved a cost-effective way to adapt. Initially we used Pronto’s 24x7x365 customer service but maintained our own Tier I/II network support. As our business grew, so did the demands our customers made on customer service and network support. We began to look around for a solution. Spot On Networks provided a very cost-effective one.”
I think our experience with Spot On will become a model for how a WISP can enhance service without investing in an expensive operations center and a substantial training and payroll commitment.”
Joe Germanotta of GuestWiFi
“Early on we decided it was crucial to maintain direct relationships with our WiFi subscribers and the management of the buildings where we provide service,” explains Richard Sherwin, President of Spot On Networks. “So we built our own customer service and network operations center in New Haven. This gave us a way to turn our real time monitoring ability into real time problem solving. We realized neither subscribers nor building management would tolerate anything less than quick, personal attention. Providing that has been a big part of our success. Now we have figured out how to share that with other WISPS.”
Both GuestWiFi and Spot On Networks deploy network architecture that includes leased line broadband connections, multiple wireless access points and a Pronto Service Controller or Gateway. The Pronto device provides the authentication and login pages, the walled garden features, and the traffic management capabilities that enforce the user's Service Level Agreement.
“With the exception of the access points, our network architecture is basically the same as GuestWiFi’s architecture,” Sherwin explains. “Since we both utilize Pronto Networks controllers and gateways and the UniFI OSS, we were able to seamlessly merge GuestWiFi’s customer service and Tier I/II network support function into Spot On’s network operation center.” GuestWiFi simply ported its existing 800 number to Spot On and we quickly integrated its 24x7x365 customer service function into Spot On’s system.”
“Spot On Networks added responsive and rapid network monitoring and Tier I / Tier II technical support for GuestWiFi,” confirms Germanotta. “It was a very cost efficient way for us to enhance the service we provide. I think this will become a model for how a WISP can enhance service without investing in an expensive operations center and a substantial training and payroll commitment.”
“We had a very smooth transition,” Germanotta adds, “and are very pleased. Now, customer service representatives speaking with hotel guests can communicate real-time issues directly with engineers in the network operations center. As a result, situations that may affect multiple users are proactively resolved. Since we partnered with Spot On, the number of customer service calls has gone down and customer satisfaction has gone up.”
“Our network operations team is very hands on,” Sherwin explains. “For example, if we get multiple calls from one location, say a particular hotel, our customer service manager immediately escalates this information to the Tier I engineer who investigates the OSS location information and reacts. If one or more access points are down, our engineer calls the site, notifies management of the problem, and talks them through power cycling the units. Sharing customer service network information with Tier I/Tier II support in real-time makes a significant improvement in network reliability and customer satisfaction. And for the hotel front desk or building management to get this information in real-time is unique and is the quickest way to get a frustrated user on line.”
“This is all possible because of Pronto’s components,” Germanotta repeats, “and our experience can easily be duplicated through Spot On by any other service provider utilizing Pronto systems and components.”
Spot On Networks provides Wi-Fi Internet service in MultiFamily residential buildings in major U.S. cities using the Pronto UniFi Wi-Fi Managed Services platform. GuestWiFi provides wireless Internet service to hotels across the United States.
Pronto Networks provides carrier-class Operations Support Systems (OSS) that enables network operators to deploy and manage WLAN networks. Both Spot On and GuestWiFi rely on Pronto systems and components.

Spot On Networks Announces ‘Finger Friendly’ Sign On for Mobile Devices
Mobile device screens are inherently small making full size, unformatted login screens difficult to navigate. Spot On has created sign on screens that automatically format to the mobile device's screen creating easy and quick access to their WiFi networks.
New Haven, CT (PRWEB) July 4, 2009 -- Spot On Networks, today, announced that users who have mobile phones or Smartphones, will now be able to sign on to its Wi Fi high speed internet networks in an easy to use format, customized for the screen of each individual mobile device.
Signing on to the Internet using a mobile phone or Smartphone has proved to be difficult since the device screens are considerably different than standard computer screens, and often the reformatting is difficult to read. Spot On Networks developed sign on screens that automatically format for each individual device so that the information on the screen is easy to read, and data entry using either a soft or regular keyboard, is "finger friendly".
As blogs and other forms of social media are being accessed by our users with Smartphones and other mobile devices, we wanted to make it simpler and more user friendly to sign on to our networks using these devices
the software platform developed by our engineering group detects the specific device being utilized by the network user, and formats the screen for the sign on page accordingly
"As blogs and other forms of social media are being accessed by our users with Smartphones and other mobile devices, we wanted to make it simpler and more user friendly to sign on to our networks using these devices", said Dick Sherwin, Chief Executive Officer of Spot On Networks. He went on to say "the software platform developed by our engineering group detects the specific device being utilized by the network user, and formats the screen for the sign on page accordingly".
The Wi Fi Alliance, an organization driving the adoption of the worldwide standards for high speed wireless networking, has certified more than 5,000 devices for the IEEE802.11 (Wi Fi) standard and hundreds more each week. As a result, Wi Fi usage continues to experience rapid growth.
About Spot On Networks: Spot On Networks is the largest service provider of high speed Wi Fi wireless Internet to the multifamily housing industry. Utilizing various technologies, Spot On Networks provides high speed wireless capabilities throughout a residential complex that replace the need for DSL or Cable Modem services while providing complete mobility within that complex.
