Spot On Networks Deploys Public UserSafe® WiFi Network On The New Haven Green in Partnership With The City of New Haven

Spot On Networks and The City of New Haven Working To “Bridge The Digital Divide” And Provide Wireless Connectivity With Official Launch of Wi-Fi On The Historic New Haven Green

For Immediate Release

New Haven, CT July 21, 2017

On Thursday, New Haven Mayor Toni Harp announced that the Historic Green located in downtown New Haven, CT will now offer free outdoor public UserSafe® Wi-Fi in partnership with Spot On Networks, a New Haven based managed Wi-Fi provider. Spot On Networks is the ideal choice to provide secure public Wi-Fi throughout the green due to their patented Wi-Fi network security and experience designing, deploying and managing complex, secure Wi-Fi systems for municipalities.

The new public Wi-Fi network on The New Haven Green is being officially launched at the start of the annual Music on the Green Concert Series hosted by the city. The Wi-Fi network has been operational and in testing phases throughout the last year in preparation for the July 2017 official launch. The Historic New Haven Green is a high traffic urban area surrounded by businesses, award-winning restaurants and universities, including Yale University.

At yesterday’s press event Mayor Harp emphasized that the city is working to bridge the digital divide and make New Haven a “fully connected city”. Spot On Networks CEO, Dick Sherwin who was present for the launch stated, “One of the keys to this is that Wi-Fi has become an integral part of the city’s infrastructure. You see it everywhere, and it’s a tribute to the city’s vision and Mayor Harp’s vision into what they’re doing for the city.”

Initial testing of the Wi-Fi network saw over 1,000 concurrent users passing over twenty-seven Gigabytes of data in a two-hour period. The network specifications are for Spot On Networks to provide speeds up to 10 Mbps, 24/7 support, monitoring and maintenance of the network. The network allows for usage of laptops, smartphones and tablet devices for both data usage and Wi-Fi calling. The New Haven Green Wi-Fi network is backed by Spot On Networks patented UserSafe® technology which guards users from hacking and identity theft using client isolation. This is the most advanced form of Wi-Fi networking security available and provides the public with a safe place to access Wi-Fi. UserSafe® technology is not available for typical Wi-Fi “hotspots” which are known to leave users vulnerable to online security threats. Regarding Spot On Network’s level of Wi-Fi security, Sherwin stated, “The typical public Wi-Fi hotspot that you might find in a store or restaurant can put users at risk of hacking and identity theft. Password protection and encryption are not enough to protect users which was why we developed UserSafe® technology. We make individual users invisible over the Wi-Fi network and if you can’t be seen, you can’t be hacked. The public can use New Haven Green Wi-Fi with confidence.”

To access Wi-Fi on the New Haven Green, locate the network named, “Historic New Haven Green” on your wireless device, enter your email address and enjoy a secure Wi-Fi connection.
